You can transform the future of cancer care.
Making a legacy gift in your Will is one of the easiest and most common ways to make a lasting impact for The Princess Margaret. Once you have provided for your loved ones, we hope you will consider Carrying The Fire forward by making a legacy gift to The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation as part of your life story. If you wish to direct your gift to a specific type of cancer (e.g., liver cancer), please contact us for custom wording to ensure your gift can be designated. There are three ways to leave a gift in your Will:
Residual gift
A residual gift leaves all or a percentage of what is left over after all debts, taxes, and other expenses have been paid from your estate. Here is an example of what that wording could look like in a Will:
“I give to The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, 610 University Avenue, Toronto, Ontario, _________ percent ( _____ %) of the rest, residue and remainder of my estate to be used for the benefit of Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.”
Specific gift
You can also leave a specific dollar amount, or specific items (real estate, bank account, art, etc.) to The Princess Margaret. Here is an example of what that wording could look like in a Will:
“I give to The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, 610 University Avenue, Toronto, Ontario, the sum of _____________ ($_______ ) to be used for the benefit of Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.”
Contingent gift
A contingent gift leaves a stated amount or share only if a spouse, family member, or other beneficiary does not live longer than you. In other words, your gift is contingent on whether they survive you.
